How our e-hovercraft was Built

Snapshots from the garage as the hull was assembled.

Laying down the keel – 20mm thick Tricast 6 foam
Adding seat sides and back wall – 10mm foam + skinned outside seat box in 200g cloth and inside in 228g carbon/kevlar cloth
10mm Tricast 6 foam gently bent (a bit of gentle head helps) to form front cabin bulkhead
Add 10mm foam cockpit sides + skin in 200g cloth
Bending 6mm foam (a lot of heat gun) to form curved seat panels in chipboard jig. 200g cloth skinning one side locks curved shape in place.

Add 228g carbon kevlar to underside + 2 carbon fibre strips strengthens the curved seat
Cockpit floor skinned with carbon fibre Shaped foam sheet supports glued in with polyester resin thickened with glass bubbles
Add 10mm foam side planing surface with ribs. All glued in with polyester resin thickened with glass bubbles
Inside of planing surface and buoyancy tank ribs skinned with 81g cloth

Thinking of Competition or Cruising?

Because of their low power e-hovercraft are unlikely to be competitive with conventional petrol powered craft in a head to head race. But just like Formula-E for cars their low noise opens up the possibility of using them at other events and in different locations.

Similarly their low noise makes them more acceptable in new cruising grounds
